Kwekwe Sports Club was established in 1951 when it became clear that the towns existing sports fields belonging to the Globe and Phoenix Mine in the centre of town were not adequate to meet the requirements of a rapidly expanding community.
The club provided for every popular field sport including cricket, rugby, football, baseball and hockey but at present the field is exclusively utilised for first class cricket. The American Eagles Baseball team played at Kwekwe Sports Club in 1958.
The club also boasts excellent facilities for tennis, bowls, squash and badminton
Many International and First Class cricket sides have visited Kwekwe Sports Club including, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, The West Indies, Bangladesh, England under 19, Worcestershire and Glamorgan. The Club hosted it’s only One Day International in December 2002, Zimbabwe vs Kenya.
